Celebrate the Holidays with Pie!

Looking for an easy pie recipe this Holiday Season? Jones Family Jams has your answer! Kristy has made 3 different pie fillings for you to choose from: Pecan, Apple, and Candy Apple Pecan. You just need to make (or buy) your crust, add the filling and bake.

The Candy Apple Pecan Pie is the best pie if you love the sweet taste of apples but want the crunch of pecans. It’s not as sweet as a traditional apple pie, plus the apples are thinly sliced so they don’t overwhelm the pecans. You may also use the filling to make a more unique crust-free cobbler — it’s great in a cast iron skillet with a crumble top. Or just use a couple of spoonfuls to top your vanilla ice cream! Check out all three flavors under our “Bakery” Tab. They will be available through December or until they sell out!

In addition to making the holidays easier for you, choose from one of 3 flavors and pair with a pie plate for the perfect gift. Or make it Jones Family Sampler by combining a pie filling, vanilla extract, and jam.

Veggie Unearthed: Patty Pan Squash

PattyPanBasketYour Patty Pan Squash is coming to us from Brown’s Farm in Orange Heights, FL — less than 100 miles from most of our customers homes.

Patty Pan is a variety of summer squash that is best known for its flying saucer shape, also known in the culinary and farming world as it’s scalloped shape. The squash is quite beautiful as it grows in a variety of colors and sizes. Patty Pan can be prepared like other summer squashes. Small “immature” squash has tender flesh and can simply be cut in half and sautéed. The “mature” squash is great for grilling, shredding into fritters, frying, and stuffing. To stuff mature Patty Pan, cut the top off and “de-seed” it just like you would a pumpkin.

Because of it’s beauty, people love to showcase this squash on the counter or as a centerpiece. However, Patty Pan will only store a couple days at room temperature. It is best to place your squash into the veggie drawer of your refrigerator for maximum freshness and  lifespan. Pattypan is a good source of Magnesium and Vitamins A, B3 and C. One cup has less than 30 calories and contains no fat, so eat up!
