Dog Days of Summer in September?

We know the calendar is changing to September, but don’t be fooled by Mother Nature. We’re are still in the dog days of summer as far as the weather goes —  and it’s tough! We must have seen 98 degree weather while we were delivering this week and next week we may be under 4 inches of rain. If you will not be home at delivery, please leave a cooler with ice at your front door. Your produce will appreciate you!

GrapesMuscadine

Veggie Unearthed: Muscadine Grapes

Muscadine Grapes are a species of grape vines native to the southeastern United States and the variety grown by our local Florida wineries. These grapes are different than the ones we are used to buying at the grocery store. Muscadines are a bit more complex with a thicker tart skin and plump, sweet flesh. No real need for recipes — Take em out and bite right in! I eat the grapes skins and all, but some folk prefer to pop the flesh out and discard the skin. No matter what, you’ll find your way! Just remember, there are seeds inside.

Store your grapes by placing them in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator to maximize their shelf life. Wash only when you are ready to eat them. The excess water will cause the skins to break down, crack, and mold.
