Celebrating the 4th with a BBQ!

Not that we need an excuse — but it’s a perfect time to host a BBQ! We spend many days outside grilling up veggies this time of year, but with the 4th around the corner you can bet we will be celebrating the holiday by hosting a bbq with friends on our block. Don’t forget to check your shopping list this weekend and be sure you have everything you need for your July 4th celebrations. We’ve put together a box ideal for grilling and sharing!

Veggie Unearthed: Watermelon

watermelon

Your watermelon came to us from Frog Song Organic Farm in Hawthorne, Florida – less than 100 miles from most of our customers’ homes.

In parts of Asia, watermelons are a popular gift to bring a host. If you’re headed out to a barbecue, nothing could be sweeter this 4th of July! Watermelons are pretty self explanatory in the prepping department. You’ll want a big knife or cleaver. Wash it, slice ‘er up and do what comes naturally. You can store your melon in the fridge for up to one week.

We all know that watermelon cools your jets on a hot day, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help out folks with inflammatory issues like asthma and arthritis. It’s even said to help bring down swelling during pregnancy! It’s low in calories, as the name would suggest, contains a great deal of water. Add in vitamins A & C as well as potassium and this is really nature’s healthy popsicle! If you’re still skeptical that something so sweet can be so good for you, remember that technically, watermelon is a vegetable.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Returning your produce box clean and undamaged means that we can use it again and again. This keeps costs down, minimizes landfill waste and keeps our carbon footprint smaller. Boxes that aren’t returned will incur a $5.00 replacement fee, so be sure to put it out for pickup!
