FPP System Emails and Delivery Reminders

Did you know that you can control when your delivery reminders come to your email box. You can get as little or as many as you would like. Many of our customers set two reminder emails. The first one to be received on Monday as a reminder that the store is closing and to make any changes to their order. The second on delivery day as a reminder to set out the empty box and make any necessary arrangement to bring their fresh veggies inside!
To set or remove your email reminders log into your account. Select Account Options from the menu bar, and then the Delivery Reminder Emails icon. Here you can select the day or days you’d like to receive your delivery reminders. If you are having issues receiving our emails, please check your spam folder and mark our email as “not spam”. In addition, adding us to your email contact list will help.
If you have any questions please contact us at fp@frontporchpickings.com.

Veggie Unearthed: Fennel

Your fennel is coming to us from KYV Organic Farm in St. Augustine, FL — less than 100 miles from most of our customers homes.

Do you know much about Fennel? We didn’t over here until we started toting veggies from the farms four years ago. Fennel is a flowering plant species in the same family as carrots, celery, dill and parsley. It’s high in fiber and low in calories and tastes a bit more like sweet celery with a mild hints of anise or black licorice.

As with all vegetable, fennel comes in all sizes. The smaller the fennel the more tender and best sliced thinly and eaten raw on salads or added to soups. The larger fennel is best suited for braising and roasting and cut into quarters. If your fennel is on the larger side be sure to remove and discard the core as it can be a bit fibrous as well.

Although most recipes focus on the bulb, the entire fennel plant is edible. The dill-like foliage, called fronds, can be used as herb and sprinkled onto salads or into soups. The stalks are the most fibrous and are best for infusing flavor to fish, creating soup stock, or running through your juicer.

To store your fennel, place in a glass container or in a plastic bag and into the veggie drawer of your refrigerator. This will help retain moisture and keep your veggie fresh for about a week.
