Fourth of July Holiday Break

A great number of our customers are going to be out of town and many of our farmers are also taking a holiday in observance of our nation’s birthday. For this reason, we’ll be suspending our deliveries for the week of July 4th only. We hope you enjoy your holiday break and we’ll be back with all your favorite produce the following week!

Last Call for the Veggie Bin Block Party!

Late spring and early summer always bring neighborhood parties, picnics and barbecues. In the spirit of community, from now until the end of June, we’ll be rewarding you for sharing The Veggie Bin with your neighbors! Simply share your Veggie Bin experience with your favorite neighbors then have them list you as their referral when they sign up. Neighbors within a half mile of your home (according to Google Maps) will qualify you for a $10 direct credit to your Veggie Bin account up to a maximum of five. You’ll also be contributing to our sense of community as well as keeping our carbon footprint low as we continue to grow.

This Week’s Veggie Unearthed: Summer Potatoes!

Your potatoes came to us from KYV Farm in Switzerland, Florida – less than 25 miles from most of our customers’ homes.

While we most often associate potatoes with the comfort foods of fall and winter, they are actually a spring crop here in Florida. Potatoes are one of the most versatile crops cultivated around the world. With spectacular storage properties and the ability to play well with almost any flavor, they can be used at any meal at any time of the year. Store potatoes in a brown paper bag out of direct sunlight in a cool place.
This week, our recipes will focus on summer applications to help you serve party guests as well as keep your kitchen cool with make-ahead convenience. The best idea in the summer is often to cook potatoes in the morning while it’s still cool then serve them with a grilled meal later in the day. Better yet, grill your potatoes right along with your meal! Your kitchen will remain bearable and your plate will still be satisfying. Enjoy!
